Melissa attended elementary, middle school and graduated from Burges High School in El Paso, TX. She graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1991 and served in the United States Army Reserves as a Lab Tech from 1987 to 1995. Before she graduated from UTEP, she was activated for Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield and served 4-5 months in Saudi Arabia. Upon return from Operation Desert Shield, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and after graduation she worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Parole Division, as a parole officer, Unit Supervisor and Program Administrator over Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors, in Midland, TX. She received an honorable discharge from the USAR in 1995 and attained the rank of E-6, Staff Sargeant. In 2005, she graduated with a Master Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Midland, TX and has been in practice with Dr. Huma Lodhi since April 2006. She is married to David Holguin and has 2 sons, Jacob and Simon. She is pleased to say that both sons attend Texas Tech University.
